About Civilian Welfare Foundation

Civilian Welfare Foundation (registered as Poddar Park Civilian Welfare Foundation) is a women-led, intersectional non-profit NGO, established in 2011, with a presence in Kolkata, Bolpur and Delhi-NCR, working at the intersections of social justice, public health, and community empowerment towards an inclusive approach of equality and equity. We are an 80G and 12A registered organisation. We are founded on the conviction that every individual, regardless of ability, gender identity, caste, religion, or socioeconomic background, deserves dignity, rights, and equal opportunity. CWF has steadily grown from a grassroots initiative into a multi-programme organisation with a presence spanning urban slums, rural tribal villages, and multiple districts across West Bengal.

Our Vision

We envision an equitable society not barricaded by the pillars of orthodox rules and gender discrimination - a society where people will be free from the shackles of patriarchy and violence.

Our Mission

Guided by this vision, we use education, sensitization campaigns, sports, and skill development as vehicles for combating violence and discrimination, through our four programme areas: disability rights, gender rights, education and child rights, and transdisciplinary healthcare.

Our Story

CWF was founded in 2011 in Kolkata as Poddar Park Civilian Welfare Foundation. Today we work in 7 districts of West Bengal. We work from Kolkata, Bolpur and Delhi-NCR. CWF Labs, our transdisciplinary research lab, is based in Bolpur, Birbhum.

  • India's first Tri-Nation T20 Wheelchair Cricket between India, Nepal and Bangladesh.
  • Workshop on Systematic Disability Sports, Siliguri, West Bengal.
  • Asia's first transgender documentary team in North Bengal.
  • India's first Unified Theatre for persons with and without disabilities.
  • India's first paramedical training for individuals from the LGBTQIA+ community.
  • India's first Disability-LGBTQIA+ fashion show.
  • Organiser of the world's only Walk for Paralympics.
  • Gender-affirmative health camps in Kolkata and Delhi-NCR.
  • Screening 900 tribal women and children for anaemia.
  • Over 50 health camps in tribal villages in Birbhum.
  • Basic healthcare programme at Birbhum, West Bengal, with more than 900 primary beneficiaries; the unit is the first transdisciplinary healthcare facility in India.
  • 36 para-athletes screened for Bengal Paralympics.
  • Nearly 56 para-athletes supported through Adopt A Para-athlete.
  • Icchedanar Pathshala, our inclusive bridge school, currently serves 100 child labourers.
  • CWF Labs, established in April 2022, is the first transdisciplinary research lab in Eastern India.
